FBISD Middle School students take part in Career Exploration

Eighth-grade students from all 14 FBISD middle schools took part in Career Day events at their campuses to explore career options and training required to obtain those careers. The students welcomed professionals from various industries, including real estate, medical, oil/gas, human resources, and more.

“Career Fair 2013: Discover Your Dream” was the theme of McAuliffe Middle School’s Career Day. The event welcomed 20 professionals to the campus, with Noel Pinnock, Human Resources Manager and inspirational author, serving as the keynote speaker. In addition to the usual activities provided at Career Day, this year students received “career passports,” which they were required to have stamped after visiting at least nine booths at the career fair.

Dulles Middle School welcomed 50 area professionals to campus to speak to students about their career paths, job experiences and education. The Career Day theme was, “Imagine, Achieve, Succeed 2013.” The Career Day speakers represented the fields of technology, education, finance, health science, human services, law and public safety, business management, marketing, tourism and hospitality, transportation, manufacturing, science and engineering.

At Missouri City Middle School, students enjoyed Career Day under the theme of, “Imagine, Discover and Pursue: Careers for a Global Tomorrow.” The event included presentations from area professionals representing various business and community organizations, as well as activities sponsored by Junior Achievement. One of the highlights of the event was a showcase of video clips of well-known professionals endorsing Career Day, including Mike McKie, FBISD Interim Superintendent.

First Colony Middle School held its fifth annual Career Day to introduce the school’s 370 eighth-grade students to future career possibilities. The program included activities and presentations from 50 business and community leaders, a Texas Scholars program and a Career Education Fair that featured interactive displays hosted by companies such as Geophysical Society of Houston, Methodist Hospital, Sugar Land Fire Department and FBISD’s Technical Education Center. The keynote speaker was former NFL player, Tyrone Smith of First and Goal, Inc.
