It’s like traveling the world in one day!
International festival countdown underway with last call for volunteers
Events like the “Children of the World” themed International Festival of Fort Bend (IFFB) don’t plan themselves, and the planning committee for the 5th annual event is wrapping up details for the free admission occasion open to the public set for Sunday, March 24, 12 noon – 6 p.m. at the Stafford Centre. One of those details is for soliciting more volunteers, day of the event volunteers, to add to the festival’s success.
Word is circulating about the action-packed day of family fun and entertainment. All are encouraged to show up dressed in cultural costumes or clothing that relates to one’s ancestral country of origin.
“This is part of what will give the feel of traveling around the world under one roof along with what those attending will see and experience from visiting exhibits and booths set up by cultural groups,” said IFFB principal Nazy Khadivian, who has been central in the festival’s annual successes.
“We’re proud of the cultural richness in Fort Bend, and we especially appreciate residents who help put together a festival that celebrates the community’s multi-ethnic backgrounds,” said Khadivian. She invites others to volunteer by “sharing your knowledge, culture and the history of your native country,” which she says can simply be done by attending. But also, “we have volunteer assignments to fit many interests and schedules.” She asks prospective volunteers to be a part of what will be an opportunity to learn new skills and meet others.
