Learn about bird watching in Texas

With the diverse ecological systems that are represented in Texas, the state has become known for the unparalleled bird-watching opportunities that can be found in the different regions. Because birding is easy for all ages to enjoy, it is a popular family activity that can lead to a lifelong hobby.

Fort Bend County Libraries will present an introductory program about bird-watching in Texas at a special program, “Soaring with the Birds,” on Saturday, March 16, beginning at 10:30 am, in the Meeting Room of the First Colony Branch Library, 2121 Austin Parkway in Sugar Land.

Mary Anne Weber, Education Director of the Houston Audubon Society, will bring an assortment of live birds to assist her in her presentation about the amazing world of birds that can be found in Texas. Learn about the wide variety of birds that can be found in the different parts of Texas, and how to identify and classify the birds.

“Birding brings billions of dollars to the Texas economy every year,” says Weber, who adds that it is one of the biggest hobbies in the United States. With more than 632 species of birds sighted in Texas according to Texas Parks and Wildlife, the state exceeds all other states in opportunities to see a wide variety of birds.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call the branch library at 281-238-2800 or the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.
