Some Dulles HS students to take a tour May 20

How many Dulles High School students wonder where their career paths will take them? Some will attend a four-year university, some a two-year college, and others will enter into the workforce.

There are a number of programs to help guide these students as to what their next choice might be, and NetIQ is hoping to help provide some insight as well by designing a Tech Day specifically for Dulles High School students.

On Monday, May 20, students from Dulles High School will spend the day (8 am-1 pm) at Houston software company NetIQ. The goal is to enable the students to get an understanding of what a career in software development looks like – taking them through the development lifecycle and what the varying roles are of those who support application development.

Students will participate in short presentations from a Product Manager, a Software Engineer, a Quality Assurance Engineer, a Services Consultant, a Technical Support Rep and a Help Desk Rep. In a breakout session, the students will also partake in a software design challenge where they can work with a software engineer to solve a specific problem. Lastly, the students will take a tour of the office.

The hope is to provide these young adults with better knowledge about the software industry and encourage them to pursue this career should it be of interest to them.
