Spring starts today – March 20
Celebrating new beginnings
The March equinox in the northern hemisphere marks the beginning of spring and it is celebrated as a time of rebirth. Today, March 20, begins what many cultures and religions observe as holidays like Easter and Passover.
Locally what also comes to the forefront are the Master Gardeners, who support the AgriLife Extension Service of Fort Bend County. The volunteer service Master Gardeners offer their skills and know how about horticulture in in relation to the environment to Fort Bend residents. In the promotion of conservation and sustainable horticultural practices, they also provide residents research-based gardening information, educational programs, and with demonstration gardens they are able to determine the best plants for the local area.
Following the first day of spring on Thursday, March 21, is one of their monthly programs entitled “Bees, Good Neighbors…Bad Houseguests” from 7-8 p.m. with a social starting a half hour before the program at the Bud O’Shieles Community Center, 1330 Band Road in Rosenberg.
For more information, interested persons are asked to call 281-733-7068. Call these Master Gardner volunteers. They will help find answers to basic gardening questions specific to the Fort Bend County area. There’s even a Hotline – 281-341-7068 for questions about plant problems, insect concerns, grass or other gardening issues. Visit their website at www.fbmg.com
