Milstead, Perez named top principals for Lamar CISD

Two veteran educators have been chosen by their peers as the 2013 Principals of the Year for Lamar Consolidated ISD.

Ben Perez, principal at Ray Elementary, is the Elementary Principal of the Year. A product of Lamar CISD schools, Perez began his career as a teacher’s aide, moving to teacher, math specialist, assistant principal, summer school principal and finally principal at Ray Elementary, a National Blue Ribbon School, which he took over in 2009.

Perez is also the President-Elect for District 4 for the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association.

Lamar Consolidated High School principal Michael Milstead is the Secondary Principal of the Year. Milstead has led Lamar Consolidated High since 2009, and has worked as a principal in Atlanta, GA. and Fort Bend ISD. He began his career as a teacher in the North Forest schools and was the Teacher of the Year in that district in 1996.
