New signs being erected in City of Meadows Place

By Karen Daniels

New signs are being placed throughout the City of Meadows Place and City Council is optimistic the change will be for the better. Signs that state “No Thru Trucks” are to be placed on Dorrance Street between Dairy Ashford and Bloomington. The weight of the trucks traveling has wreaked havoc on the streets, and with the added strain from prior years’ drought, the cement on Dorrance needs continual repairs.

Two different signs for “Neighborhood Watch” will be placed throughout the city with emphasis on the entryways into Meadows Place. Last September the Meadows Police Department began holding neighborhood watch meetings at their Tactical Center located at 11803 S. Kirkwood Drive on the third Wednesday of each month instructing residents on topics such as protecting themselves and their property, observing suspicious behavior, and contacting the police department. Mayor Charles Jessup said, “Meadows Place is already the safest city in the area but the Meadows Place Neighborhood Watch program really helps raise the collective consciousness of our community and puts the focus and attention on helping the police department prevent crimes, and sometimes even how to solve them.”

Don’t forget the Meadows Home and Garden Spring Tour on Saturday, April 27th from 2:00-5:00pm. This year’s theme is Don’t Move, Improve! Backyard kitchens, his and her man caves, landscaping designs, and chef’s kitchens are some of the features you will see in these nine distinct homes. Proceeds benefit scholarships given for educational purposes by the Garden Club to both youths and adults. If you want to evaluate the cost of moving versus improving, this is the place to be.
