Rosenberg Railroad Museum to hold “Rail Fest” April 13

Asher Larkin Murray is enjoying watching a train cross the trestle bridge from a “G scale” model train layout.

The train is coming to town on April 13, that is the Union Pacific Mini train.  For the first time ever, this one-of-a-kind train is making a showing in honor of Rail Fest for the Rosenberg Railroad Museum.  The inaugural run will include Rosenberg Mayor Vincent Morales along with Rosenberg Railroad Museum Board members to open the day for Rail Fest.

Demand for this train is high, as it is generally booked 2-3 years in advance.  Built in 1956 as an exact replica of the 900 series diesel engines from that era, the train’s miniature locomotive is made from a Clark tow tractor (of the type used to pull baggage wagons at larger passenger depots).  The train includes six cars, two of which hold passengers for a “fun ride” around the museum.  The locomotive will arrive in a customized truck and trailer just in time for the Rail Fest event.

Juan Carreon, Assistant Vice President for Public affairs for Union Pacific announced that:  “Union Pacific is proud to support the Rosenberg, Texas Railroad Museum Rail Fest this year. We are especially excited to bring our Union Pacific Mini Train so that all of our friends can enjoy riding it. Rosenberg and Union Pacific have a long mutual history. UP played a major role in its development and during our 150th Anniversary last year, the City of Rosenberg received the designation of Union Pacific Train Town. We look forward to our future together.”

This year for Rail Fest, all activities are included in the special event admission price of $5 for adults/ $4 for seniors/ $3 children. (No discount coupons for this special event)  Activities at Rail Fest include riding the Union Pacific Mini Train, Live Music with the Brazos River Pickers and Star Flight, Games, Hobo Re-enactors, Crafts such as making your own hobo bindle (sack on a stick), masks and more.  For Rail Fans, come watch the nearly 60 trains that pass the museum each day along with model train layouts in HO scale, S scale, a Lionel layout and Thomas the Tank engine interactive layout.  In addition – Operation Lifesaver will have a trailer present to educate children large and small about train safety.  Concessions will be available for purchase from O’Henrys Catering and a 1917 Model T Ford will be on display for all to see.

Bill Rickert, The Museums Board President is very excited about this year’s Rail Fest, “It is sure to be a ‘must see’ event for all of Fort Bend County and the Gulf Coast Region.  Railroading has a long history in Fort Bend and Rail Fest is a fun and exciting event celebrating the history that enabled Fort Bend to become what it is today.”   Rickert went on to state “This event is very affordable for the entire family – just $16 for a family of four for the entrance to the museum and participation in all activities.  You just can’t beat that!”

Join them on April 13 from 11:00 till 6:00 pm on the Rosenberg Railroad Museum grounds, 1921 Avenue F in Rosenberg. Visit www.RosenbergRRMuseum.org or call 281.633.2846 for directions and more information.
