Two clerks selling alcohol to minors busted

Clerks from two different stores in Richmond were busted for selling alcohol to minors.

An undercover sting by the Richmond Police Department netted two arrests last week. Richmond police spokesman, Master Sergeant Lowell Neinast, said on the evening of March 28, numerous stores in Richmond were visited by minors who attempted to purchase alcohol as part of the sting operation. In all but two of the stores when the teen attempted to purchase a beverage containing alcohol they were asked for identification and if they were not of legal age, the sale was refused.

However, two different store clerks sold the alcohol to minors and found themselves busted.

Neinast said Hector Ochoa, 51, of Rosenberg, was working at the Shell Station at 1101 Jackson when he was arrested and charged with Sale of Alcohol to a Minor. In this case, when he asked the minor for identification a beeping alert went off when he scanned the license indicating that the purchaser was underage; but he allowed to purchase anyway.

In the second case Neinast said, Mohan Singh, 26, of Sugar Land, was working at JB Food Mart #1 in the 1700 block of FM 1640 when he was arrested and charged with Sale of Alcohol to a Minor; he failed to even ask the minor for identification.

Both men face misdemeanor charges in county court.
