Three FBISD Science Olympiad Teams headed to state competition in May

The Science Olympiad Teams from Austin High School, Clements High School and Sartartia Middle School have advanced to the 2013 Texas Science Olympiad competition, which will be held May 3-4 at Texas A&M University in College Station.

The three FBISD teams advanced to the state competition after placing among the top performing groups at the Gulf Coast Regional competition, held at Lone Star College – CyFair. The Austin team placed first in two events and second in two events. The Clements team placed first and third overall, winning 13 of 22 events; and the Sartartia team placed second overall at the competition.

The Texas Science Olympiad is a program devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science, and providing recognition for outstanding achievement. Team competition is patterned after track tournaments with challenging and motivational events ranging from earth science through physics.

Events range from hands-on labs to student built machines, from outdoor events to paper and pencil tests. The emphasis is on learning, participation, interaction, having fun and team spirit.
