Missouri City native wins 1st place in scholarship pageant

Saturday, March 3, Krystin Gabrielle Edwards wowed the crowd as she competed in dance, casual wear, swimwear, talent, formal wear, and oral expression. Of 100 applicants then ten contestants, Kryssi (as she is most commonly known) won 1st Place in the 30th Annual Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant.

Kryssi  attended and graduated from Elkins High School in 2010. While there, she maintained her GPA high enough to remain in the AVID (Advanced Via Individual Determination) Program for all four years of high school. Since her sophomore year, Kryssi began her higher education at Houston Community College. While taking on multiple academic challenges, she was also committed to the DIVA’s Organization (a civic young ladies volunteer group) and successfully became vice president by her junior and retired her position by the end of her senior year.

Edwards is currently a senior in the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication at the University of Houston. She will soon achieve her degree in Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. She is currently active in the HERE Organization (Helping Everyone  Receive Everywhere) as a board member, involved with the NAACP-Communications and Publicity Committee, and former member of the Pro-Recreational at the Wellness and Recreation Center. Ms. Edwards is also honored to say that she was selected by the Eta Mu Chapter to compete in the 30th Annual Miss Black and Gold Scholarship Pageant.
