Early voting underway for May 11 election

By Elsa Maxey

Early voting at 18 locations throughout Fort Bend County is underway for the May 11 election.  It began this Monday and ends May 7.

Fort Bend County Elections Administrator John Oldham reports that a total of 463 voters cast ballots this Monday. “That compares to 403 on the first day in 2012, and 809 in 2011.”  He also told the “Star” that municipalities having elections are running comparable numbers to those from past elections.

In particular, Oldham points out that the major difference between 2013 and 2011 is that Sugar Land, Needville,  and Fulshear are not holding elections.  He said numbers also show Fort Bend ISD had 238 ballots cast Monday as opposed to 558 on the first day in 2011, and 355 in 2012.  Stafford’s city hall and school district are currently showing  23 votes cast at both locations on the first day of early voting.

To find out the early voting locations, visit the county’s website where sample ballots may also be found.  Remember no excuse is necessary to vote early and if you are registered and do not do it between now and next Tuesday, you’ll have to wait until Election Day, May 11.
