Science Olympiad Teams headed to state competition
Austin High School’s black team placed fourth in the C division (grades 9-12) and Sartartia Middle School’s team finished second in the B division (grades 6-9) at the Gulf Coast Region Science Olympiad competition held March 23 at Lone Star College – CyFair. These two teams will join a team from Clements High School in advancing to the state competition to be held May 3-4 at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
The 2013 Texas Science Olympiad tournament competition will consist of 28 different events for each division, 23 events selected by National Science Olympiad and 5 events selected by Texas Science Olympiad.
Austin High School competed against 17 schools in 24 events placing first in 2 events and second in 2 events. Sartartia’s team also competed against 17 schools in 23 events and took second in the tournament.
Mr. Matt Wilson, the sponsor of the AHS team, had this to say about the event, “I’m so proud to be a part of this year’s team. They’ve been preparing since last August when they started seeking out corporate sponsors. We have some of the most highly motivated and enthusiastic young adults I have ever had the opportunity to work with. This will be a tremendous learning experience for us.”
