Meadows Place elects new council member

By Karen Daniels

During the Meadows Place elections, three people vied for two spots as alderman on the city council. The winners were Terry Henley, incumbent and twenty-six year dedicated veteran with Meadows Place, and newcomer Kelle K. Mills. At the May City Council meeting, Ms. Mills thanked everyone for their support as she sat in her new chair, addressing the audience with calm pride. She also spoke about the success of the Dulles High School baseball team and encouraged residents to come support them at the regional championship game, something that hasn’t occurred since 1989. Rallying for causes Ms. Mills believes in will definitely come naturally for her.

Kelle and her husband Bruce have lived in Meadows Place for more than 20 years. When asked why she wanted to run for the board position, she stated, “My husband and I have always been involved.” She with educational and recreational volunteer work, and her husband as a volunteer with the Meadows Place police department. Ms. Mills “hopes to move our City forward, support our mayor and city council.” She added that, “I am the first to admit when I am wrong.” When the city park was first proposed, Ms. Mills “wasn’t sure about it.” But now loves it and is looking forward to more projects that shape the future of the City of Meadows Place, like the neighborhood watch program.

Ms. Mills has two children, 24 year-old daughter Jaclyn and 18 year-old son Dakota who were present in the audience to support their mother. In a follow-up question inquiring about the Dulles baseball team, Kelle shared that the team had won their regional game 5-2 and are moving on to the state finals. Highlights from the game were a homerun by Darryn Sheppard and, Alderman Kelle K. Mills’ son, Dakota, pitched all seven innings, earning the title of MVP. Semi-finals will be held Friday, June 7, at Dell Diamond field in Round Rock, Texas. If they win, Dulles will play in Saturday’s championship game. Go Vikings!
