This year’s festivities will feature guest appearances by some special celebrities: “Funky” Larry Jones, of Houston’s Majic 102.1 FM; J. Anthony Brown, of the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner” Morning Show; and Wesley Jonathan, of the hit TV Land sitcom, “The Soul Man”.

Building on a decade of bonds created through unity with the community, the Missouri City Juneteenth Celebration Foundation is set to embark on its 11th year with a focus on—Family First!

“We welcome residents, businesses and friends across the region to join us in recognizing and honoring the wisdom and wealth of our families,” said District B City Councilman Don Smith, who is Founder and Chairman of MCJCF. “All of this year’s festivities will be held here at home in Missouri City and will feature educational events for all to enjoy.”

National dignitaries have traditionally participated in hosting MCJCF ceremonies and organizers are excited to have the following distinguished guests headlining activities this year: “Funky” Larry Jones, popular on-air personality with Houston’s Majic 102.1 FM; J. Anthony Brown, comedian, actor and long-time co-host of the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner” Morning Show; and Wesley Jonathan, an actor and producer, who is currently a co-star of the hit TV Land sitcom, “The Soul Man”.

“We’re extremely proud that the Foundation’s reach continues to extend nationally,” said Derrick Woods, Executive Director of MCJCF. “And we look forward to these respected celebrities sharing their star power with us to help bring more attention to the rich history and contributions of our community.”

Scheduled events for the 2013 celebration include:

Earlier this year, the White House named Paul Quinn a finalist on the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in recognition of the college’s “WE over Me Farm”, which focuses on the food deficiency that exists in the Highland Hills area of South Dallas. Fresh produce from the farm is used in Paul Quinn’s dining facilities, some is sold to residents in the area and to Dallas chefs, and 10 percent is donated to the community.
