A 22 year old Missouri City man has been sentenced to federal prison and supervised release for receiving and distributing child pornography out of a federal district court in Lafayette Louisiana.

On April 12, 2012, Juan Carlos Curiel, 22, entered a guilty plea on the child pornography charges. According to federal authorities, Curiel’s email account housed some 30 videos or images of child pornography. That discovery led federal authorities to search Curiel’s Missouri City home in October of 2011.

In that search, another 100+ videos and child pornography images were discovered on laptops, and a desktop computer and other computer storage devices. Faced with the evidence, Curiel admitted to downloading the images through an online file-sharing said agents.

On June 19, 2013 Juan Carlos Curiel was sentenced to 60 months in prison by U.S. District Court Judge Elizabeth E. Foote for conspiracy to receive and distribute child pornography. He is also required to complete five years of supervised release and register as a sex offender, said Stephanie A. Finley of the US Attorney’s Office; Western District of Louisiana.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security investigated the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys John Luke Walker and Howard C. Parker prosecuted the case.
