The contest was open to FBISD students in grades 1-8, who were asked to submit an original design of a healthy mascot that incorporated the use of fruits and vegetables. More than 700 entries were submitted, with 26 finalists being named.

As the contest winner, Amalu received a laptop computer and will have her mascot appear on CND promotional items, such as lunch menus.
