First Colony Branch Library’s summer schedule of free children’s programs announced

First Colony Branch Library, 2121 Austin Parkway in Sugar Land, presents a variety of free children’s programs — Mother Goose Time, Toddler Time, Story Time, Pajama Night Story Time, and School-Age Programs — every month.  These programs are free and open to the public. The summer schedule for July is as follows:

Mother Goose Time, which takes place on every Tuesday at 11:00 am, provides caregiver/infant activities and songs especially designed for the youngest book-lovers, from age 1 month to 12 months. Program dates are July 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30.

Toddler Time, which meets every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:15 am, offers caregiver/child activities, stories and songs for older babies, from 12 to 36 months of age. Program dates are July 3, 10, 11, 17, 18, 24, 25, and 31. The library will be closed on July 4.

Story Time, which meets every Wednesday at 11:15 am, provides stories, movies, and age-appropriate craft activities for pre-school children, 3 to 6 years of age. Program dates are July 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31.

A special moonlight sing-along for families with children of all ages will take place on Mondays beginning at 6:30 pm, in the Meeting Room. Enjoy singing, dancing, clapping, and other rhythmic activities. Program dates are July 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29.

The School-Age Programs — crafts, movies, stories, and more for school-aged children in 1st through 5th grades ONLY — take place on Tuesdays, beginning at 1:30 and

2:30 pm. Seating is extremely limited. A free hand stamp, which is required for admission, will be available one hour before the program.

The July schedule is as follows:

• July 2 – Puppet Pizzazz: Sharing the Secrets of Puppetry

• July 9 – Give a HOOT for Owls! (presented by Houston Audubon Society)

• July 16 –Of Mime & Matter (presented by Texas Mime Theater)

• July 23 – African Folklore & Fairytales (presented by Second Generation Dance Company)

• July 30 – Environment & Wildlife (presented by Wildlife Center of Texas)

The Young Adult Programs, which take place every Thursday this summer beginning at 3:00 pm, are designed for youth in 6th grade and up.

The July schedule is as follows:


• July 11 – Gelatin Printing (registration required; call 281-238-2800)

• July 18 – Barrio Dogs of Houston

• July 25 – Screen Printing with Danny Russo (registration required; call 281-238-2800)
