Monday night at the movies presented at University Branch Library

Enjoy a free movie night out at the University Branch Library every Monday night in July. A different movie will be shown each week in the Large Meeting Room of the library, located at 14010 University Blvd in Sugar Land, on the UH campus.

On Monday, July 8, library patrons will be treated to a 2012 action film with a star-studded cast, including Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Nick Fury is director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D.. When global security is threatened by Loki and his cohorts, Fury pulls together an elite team of Marvel Super Heroes, including Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow, to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. This movie is rated PG-13. Showtime is 6:00 pm.

The feature film on Monday, July 15, is an animated feature film about a video-game villain named Ralph, who longs to be known as the good guy. In an attempt to win a medal proving that he truly is a good guy, Ralph jumps from one arcade game to another, looking for opportunities to be the hero. Ralph’s special skill, however, is wrecking things, and he inadvertently creates chaos wherever he goes. When Ralph accidentally unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade, his only hope is to team up with a young trouble-making glitch from a candy-coated cart-racing game who just might be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a good guy. This film is rated PG. Showtime is 6:00 pm.

The special feature on Monday, July 22, is an action-adventure film starring Daniel Craig as James Bond. When Bond’s latest assignment goes gravely wrong and agents around the world are exposed, MI6 is attacked, forcing M to relocate the agency. With MI6 compromised from both inside and out, M is left with one ally she can trust: Bond. This movie is rated PG-13. Showtime is 6:00 pm.

The final movie of the month will be shown on Monday, July 29. This epic fantasy-adventure film adaptation is based on a popular novel by J.R.R. Tolkien. Bilbo Baggins is swept into a quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from a fearsome dragon.  Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of 13 dwarves led by a legendary warrior. Before reaching their goal, they must first escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever — Gollum. He gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities — a simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways that Bilbo cannot begin to foresee. This movie is rated PG-13. Showtime is 5:30 pm.
