Two Fort Bend students recognized with scholarship

Fort Bend residents Deborah Osakue and Swathi Ariyapadi pictured here received a $1,000 scholarship each as part of the Comcast Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program.

Fort Bend high school seniors, Deborah Osakue, a senior at Hightower High School, and Swathi Arlyapadi, a senior at Travis High School were recently awarded a Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship for their leadership in the community through academic achievement and community service. They were  honored at the 13th annual recognition ceremony.

Fifty one Houston-area high-school students students received $1,000 each and one was awarded a $5,000 Comcast Founder Scholarship.

The students have participated in a wide variety of community service activities, such as volunteering at hospitals, food and clothing drives, mentoring and coaching younger students, and helping revitalize communities nation-wide.

Each year, Comcast works with high school principals, guidance counselors, and school administrators to select the scholarship recipients. Since 2001, Comcast has awarded nearly $19 million in scholarships to 19,000 students across the country.
