Thousands celebrate the 4th of July at Missouri City’s annual celebration
A record crowd of approximately 6,000 people enjoyed Missouri City’s 29th annual 4th of July Celebration that featured a “Messy Station” for youngsters, mechanical bulls, and a spectacular fireworks show over the lake at Buffalo Run Park.
For a $2 fee, children and adults got a can of silly string to play with in a designated location called the “Messy Station.” The proceeds benefitted the Mayor’s Youth Commission. Vendors sold turkey legs, hotdogs, and flavored ice to the large crowd.
According to Parks and Recreation Center Director Larry Foos, “The 4th of July Celebration was an unqualified success. This was a record attendance at the beautiful Buffalo Run Park and everyone had a great time.”
The fireworks began at 9:15 p.m. following remarks by Missouri City Mayor Allen Owen, Congressman Al Green, and Rep. Ron Reynolds. Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Wyatt, Council members Don Smith, Floyd Emery, and Danny Nguyen.
