Mamie Greoge Branch Library hosts free summer movie series

Fort Bend County Libraries will feature a free Summer Movie Series at the Mamie George Branch Library, 320 Dulles Avenue in Stafford, in August. A variety of family films will be shown.

The movie on Wednesday, August 7, is set in New England in the early 20th century. Pete is a 9-year-old orphan escaping his brutal adoptive parents with his only friend, a 20-foot-high, 40-foot-long cartoon dragon named Elliott, who is sometimes invisible. Pete and Elliott successfully escape to Maine, where they find refuge with a lighthouse keeper named Nora and her father, Lampie. When the evil Doctor Terminus learns about Elliott, the dragon must be creative in his efforts to elude the evil villain who wants to use Elliott “for medicinal purposes.” This movie is rated G. Showtime is 2:00 pm.

The special feature on Wednesday, August 21, is a comedy-adventure film about a group of friends who find themselves on a thrilling underground adventure filled with humor and heart-pounding peril, as they search for a treasure hidden by a notorious pirate named One-Eyed Willie. Written by Steven Spielberg and Chris Columbus, this 1985 movie stars Sean Astin and Josh Brolin, and is rated PG. Showtime is 2:00 pm.

The movies are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information about the featured movies, call the branch library at 281-238-2880, or the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.
