Tara… the new OK Corral?
By LeaAnne Klentzman
With dreams of grandeur near the Brazos River a developer created an idyllic community named Tara back in the late 70’s starting with affordable homes with the plans of building palatial homes closer to the river and the freeway. Fast forward about 40 years and those dreams are only a memory for the handful of original homeowners who remain.
Cases like these are now the norm for the streets of Tara. Monday, evening, July 8, at about 9 pm, Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 600 block of Jeff Davis Drive in the Tara subdivision after a report of gunshots. Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel said the victim told deputies he was driving on Jeb Stuart Drive when he heard a popping sound, noticed blood running out of his right thigh and then he felt pain. He drove himself home and called 911. He was taken to OakBend Medical Center by Fort Bend EMS.
As deputies investigated this case they realized it could likely be linked to another. In that case two young men were driving on Pickett Drive in the Tara subdivision when they were stopped by three subjects in a white Explorer at the intersection of Pickett and Lee. Two of the occupants of the Explorer got out; one wielding a pistol. “The first two turned their vehicle around and returned to a house on Jeb Stuart where they entered one of their homes,” explained Bob Haenel. He went on to say that as the white Explorer rolled up to the home on Jeb Stuart, three young black males got out of the vehicle and began shooting hand guns into the air and into the ground.
One of the males whom had returned to his Jeb Stuart residence stepped out of the house with a shotgun. No further information was available on any of the three cases. It appears Tara might just slip into a war zone like the plantation it was named for.
