George E. (Buzz) Stroud

Funeral services for George E. (Buzz) Stroud, Jr., 88, of Sugar Land and formerly of Oakwood, will be at 10 a.m. On Saturday, August 10, 2013, at First Christian Church, Oakwood. Burial will follow at the Oakwood Cemetery. He passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013, in Sugar Land. Rev Doug Stevens will be officiating.

He was born in Oakwood on September 18, 1924, to George E. Stroud and Mamie Pitts Stroud. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lorraine Easley Stroud and son, George E. Stroud, III, of Sugar Land. Other survivors include a brother, Bobby Stroud and wife, Delores, of Palestine; nephews John Eppler, of Valleja, CA., Jim Bob Stroud, of Oakwood, Tim Stroud, Justin; niece, Virginia Stroud McCauley, of Colleyville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joan Stroud Eppler.

Buzz graduated from Oakwood High School in 1942. He retired from the hardware business Asfter many years. During WW II: he did his schooling at Big Spring Army Air Base as a ground crew chief. He was awarded the bronze star and held the air medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, D.F.C. He received the presidential citation as a waist gunner on AB 17 with the 8th Air Force, serving 25 missions over Europe.

He was a member of Bethany Christian Church in Houston and was a Shriner. Pallbearers will be Jim Bob Stroud, Tim Stroud, John Eppler, Raymond Rantala, Chris Eppler and Brady Edwards. Memorials may be made to First Christian church, P.O. Box 382, Oakwood, TX. 75855 or Oakwood Cemetery Asso., P.O. Box 349, Oakwood TX. 75855 or charity of your choice. Visitation will be before and after the service.
