Freshman orientation pep rally held at Austin High School

Austin High School Bulldog Band entertains at orientation.

Did anyone hear the roar coming from Austin High School on the 8th of August?  It was the freshman orientation pep rally. Before starting their first day of classes at Austin High School, upcoming freshman were given the opportunity to get all questions answered and to see how exciting high school really is. The ninth-graders thanks to help from AHS Link Crew are already equipped with some helpful tips for surviving high school.

AHS Link Crew is a school community-building program. As positive role models, Link Leaders are motivators, leaders and teachers who guide freshmen, and new students, to discover what it takes to be successful in high school. A year with Link Crew begins with a spirited and interactive 9th grade orientation at the start of the school year.  After the orientation, the Leaders lead their crew of freshmen through a series of fun, positive activities designed to help them all get to know each other as well as learn important campus information.

The day-long event included the pep rally, team building events, a tour of the school, breakout sessions, and a club fair in the gym, of course who could forget the pizza lunch.  Seeing as Link Crew’s goal is to provide schools with a structure in which students make real connections with each other, thus increasing school safety and reducing the incidence of bullying through anti-bullying education, this goal at AHS is on its way to being achieved.
