Burglary duo gets busted when they run out of gas

By LeaAnne Klentzman

Sheriff’s deputies were called by a concerned neighbor early Tuesday morning when a suspicious vehicle snagged her interest.

It was about 3 am, Tuesday morning when sheriff’s deputies were sent to investigate a suspicious vehicle and persons near Needville along Williams School Road and FM 360 in rural southwest Fort Bend County. According to Bob Haenel, the sheriff’s spokesman, “The caller said a man was going door-to-door ringing doorbells and he had a gas can in his hand.” He went on to explain that patrol deputies did find the duo, out of gas, near the intersection of Williams School Road and FM 360.

As a deputy took one man for gas, the other; while chatting with deputies along the side of the road eventually admitted that the property loaded into the back of the “out of gas car” had been stolen from the nearby homes or storage facilities. Haenel said most of the stolen loot was law and garden equipment.

After realizing they had fallen into a crime scene, deputies began contacting nearby residents and having them check their homes or storage barns to see if anything was missing. Haenel said, “A resident in the 9000 block of Dixie Drive discovered his storage shed had been burglarized. He later identified the items found in the vehicle to be his property.” To add insult to injury, the gas can was stolen too!

Cody Andel, 24, of Guy, and Herman Ephran, 36, of Wharton are both facing burglary charges and will see a judge on Wednesday.
