The Vineyard Church hopeful to build new sanctuary

By Karen Daniels

In 2009, The Vineyard Church applied for and received a Special Use Permit by the City of Stafford to build a new sanctuary for their congregation. Unfortunately, due to the economic hardships at that time, the addition to the church was delayed and the permits expired. Flash forward to August 2013 and The Vineyard Church is ready to reapply and build their new sanctuary. Gary Borne, Director of Operations, explained that in 2009 the project was worth an estimated 3 to 3.5 million dollars. Since then, the plans have been revised and the estimated total is between 1.5 and 2 million. Now that the economy and the church have “healthy finances” they’d like to remain fiscally responsible, and scale back their design.

The plans are to turn their existing sanctuary into a grand lobby, adding new entrances, a bookstore, an information center, and a coffee bar. Twenty-five additional parking spaces will be provided to accommodate their growing congregation. The new sanctuary that will be attached to the old one, will double their seating capacity from 250 to 500.

When asked by Commissioner Virginia Rosas as to what they might do in the future with the land that is still available to them, Counsel for The Vineyard stated that although they have no current plans, one day they would like to see a athletic field or park setting. The Vineyard has aspirations to open their new sanctuary by Easter 2015.
