Dozier’s Barbecue, Grocery and Market

Barbecue and smoked meats

This is a mom & pop business that’s been around for 56 years with a long-standing reputation for some of the best barbecue around.  With an extremely casual grocery store-type atmosphere, you place your order at the counter and are called up when it is ready.  Everything is served in disposable ware.  Refrigerated cabinets are full of pre-packaged meats, jerky, and all sorts of other items.  The menu is displayed on a board above the counter, where you order sandwiches, plates, sides, desserts, and other a la carte items.

At $10.95 a plate, the sliced beef and sausage lived up to its reputation.  Both could have had a stronger smoked flavor for my taste.  The sides were typical fare, nothing outstanding.  But hey, it’s about the meat, not the sides.  The sauce was red and thin, and tasted more like spiced up tomato sauce; lame to say the least and a little distracting.  A perfect brisket should not require sauce, but for those who prefer it, it took away from the flavor of the meat.

Overall Rating:  3 ½ stars.
