Black cat blowout going on at Sugar Land Animal Services

Few would argue that the black cat is in need of a serious image overhaul.
Throughout history it has conjured up images of witchcraft and magic and in North America it is considered unlucky to cross paths with it.
But today, black cats in America’s shelters, are the unlucky ones.
Katherine Ketchum. of Sugar Land Animal Services, says there are always a lot of black cats at the facility. “They are seen as uninteresting and blah. People aren’t looking at their personalities, just their coloring,” said Ketchum.
Which is why a shelter volunteer came up with the idea four years ago to encourage the adoption of black cats every September by reducing the price from $90 to $20. A $20 gift card to Petco is also part of the deal, making the adoption essentially free.
A cat adoption through Sugar Land Animal Services includes vaccinations, deworming, flea treatment, spaying or neutering and a microchip.
If you need even more convincing, you can try the shelter’s sleepover program which allows prospective families to tryout a pet for three to five days.
