Retired educators held their “Oh Happy Day” luncheon

Newly retired public education employees were honored at the first meeting of the year for Fort Bend/Harris Retired Educators Association. The organization held its “Oh  Happy Day” luncheon and meeting recently. One hundred sixty former and new members attended.

At the meeting officers were installed and the new retirees had the opportunity to hear about the organization and consider the decision to join the group that offers many member benefits. Officers for the coming year are President, Sylvia Garza; First VP Donna Dixon; 2nd VP Ann Thompson; Secretary Pat Caldeleugh; Treasurer Maggie Orozco; and Parliamentarian Julia Hamilton.

Dues are $35 per year. Both local and state organizations work to advocate for improved benefits for all education retirees and to promote the well  being of its members.

Meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at10:30 a.m., First United Methodist Church in Sugar Land, Parish Hall, 431 Eldridge. Next meeting is Thursday, September 12.
