Skeeters’ All-Star Aaron Bates honored along with Lancaster’s Jerry Owens
The First Half Freedom Division Champion Sugar Land Skeeters announced that Atlantic League officials have selected Skeeters All-Star first baseman and outfielder Aaron Bates as Atlantic League Co-Player of the Month for August 2013. The honor comes as Sugar Land strives to set a new Atlantic League win record while still maintaining the best winning percentage in professional baseball (88-41, .682).
In the month of August, Bates hit .376 (41×109) over 29 games. During that span, he also collected eight doubles, three home runs and a team-leading 20 RBI.
“Aaron has been Mr. Consistency,” said Skeeters Manager Gary Gaetti. “He has great at-bats, his defense is outstanding, he gets on base and he makes things happen. He does something productive every day and he’s the kind of guy you want at the plate when the game is on the line. I’m thrilled for him to be recognized because he absolutely deserves it.”
On the season, Bates holds a .319 (133×417) average, which ranks second in the League only behind Co-Player of the Month Jerry Owens’ .347 mark with the Lancaster Barnstormers. Currently in his second season with the Skeeters, Bates has combined for 26 doubles, seven home runs and 54 RBI over his 117 games with Sugar Land in 2013.
