Austin Parkway Elementary Dads commit to serving as Watch D.O.G.S.

Parent participation at Austin Parkway Elementary School has gotten off to a good start, especially with school dads and father-figures taking part in the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program. Last May, Austin Parkway hosted a “Dad and Me Pizza Party and Watch D.O.G.S. Kickoff Party,” where more than 100 dads committed to volunteering more than 60 days on campus during the 2013-2014 school year. These male role models will volunteer their time by assisting campus staff as car/bus rider facilitators, hallway monitors, library assistants, lunchroom helpers, classroom and homework tutors, and playground monitors. With a strong male presence on campus, Austin Parkway Elementary students will gain an added sense of security on campus and appreciate spending valuable time with their dads in the school setting. Schools that implement the Watch D.O.G.S. program typically experience a significant decline in student disciplinary referrals and bullying behavior, thus creating an environment conducive to learning.

If you are interested in making a positive impact on the lives of students, and would like more information on joining the Watch D.O.G.S. program at Austin Parkway Elementary School, contact Assistant Principal Courtney Dickey at 281-634-4001 or email watchdogsape@gmail.com.
