HCC Southwest student group partners with Houston Food Bank

The  Houston Community College Southwest (HCC Southwest) Psi Kappa Psychology Club is partnering with the Houston Food Bank  for a community event, SNAP-to-It, to distribute free, fresh produce and assist those who wish to sign-up for SNAP, formerly known as the food stamp program.

SNAP-to-It will include Houston Food Bank’s mobile food distribution unit bringing approximately 10,000 pounds of healthy food to the event for students and members of the community.

The Houston Food Bank will bring a team of staff who will provide eligibility and benefits information regarding SNAP. Additionally, through its partnership with Health and Human Services, the team will sit with attendees to fill out the applications and then submit them electronically to the state.

The application used is called an integrated application that will allow attendees to concurrently apply for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Medicaid for Pregnant Women, Medicaid for Adults with Children and Children’s Medicaid. The event is free and open to the community.

The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, September 26, at Houston Community College Southwest Stafford Learning Hub at 10041 Cash Road, Stafford, Texas 77477.
