Cuisine: Barbecue

Well, we are getting closer to our quest for the best barbecue in these parts. This restaurant has been around for 40 years and has built quite a reputation for their barbecue.

The simple menu offers 1, 2, or 3 meat combo plates from $13.95 to $17.95. You can also order all you can eat family style for 4 or more for $25 per person. Don’t like barbecue? No problem, a peanut butter & jelly sandwich can be ordered for a buck-fifty. Typical meats & barbecue sides were offered, as well as cobblers and pies for dessert.

The sliced brisket, pork ribs and chicken were all very tender and well cooked without being dry. The smoked flavor was noticeably better than other places reviewed, but not as robust as hoped for. The sauce was medium-bodied, tangy, slightly sweet, but a little on the thin side and stopped short of tantalizing the taste buds. The green beans were cooked perfectly and well seasoned. All other sides were good. There was enough meat on the plate for two people.

Overall, this barbecue came closer to my expectations of good barbecue. It was tasty, satisfying, and the service was good. But at $3 more per plate than most other places (and they’re fairly consistent), I could not justify the difference.

Overall Rating: 4 stars.
