A Tribute to Sharon Heldt, an original founder of Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity

Sharon Heldt

Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity mourns the loss of one of its original founders, Ms. Sharon Heldt.  Ms. Heldt passed away September 10, 2013.  It was over 20 years ago that she joined a team of committed citizens who were determined to make a difference in Fort Bend County.

An attorney by trade, Sharon was instrumental in providing the necessary guidance and support required to advance Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity.  She committed herself to learning how to run a Habitat for Humanity Affiliate and was also a driving force behind establishing a Fort Bend Habitat ReStore in Fort Bend County.

Sharon assumed the position of Executive Director where she was successful in fundraising and obtaining the necessary grant funds for the construction of multiple community projects, including Habitat Lane in Richmond, Texas and more recently the Teal Run Build Project in Fresno, Texas.  Under her direction, the organization was successful in engaging local schools and organizations such as Travis, Elkins, and Clements High School and community clubs such as Oyster Creek Rotary Club and many more.

Fort Bend Habitat exists today and is available to those in need of safe and decent shelter due to the contributions and efforts of Ms. Heldt.  Fort Bend Habitat respectfully submits its utmost respect and admiration for Ms. Sharon Heldt and our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.  Fort Bend Habitat will have a tribute service in honor of Ms. Sharon Heldt on October 5  and dedicate a home in her honor at 406 Collins, Richmond, Texas.
