The Fort Bend Foodie 10/02/13

Schulze’s Bar-b-que

1214 First Street Rosenberg, TX 77471

Cuisine:  Barbecue

This is another long-time barbecue establishment with an equal reputation for goodness.  It came highly recommended by our readers, so I went in with high expectations.

In a very casual, dated, cafeteria atmosphere, you order up and build your plate as you go through the line.  The usual one-, two-, or three- meat dinner plates are offered with choices of sliced beef, smoked ham, chicken, pork ribs, sausage, turkey, and …drum roll… pulled pork!  Also on the menu were a large variety of usual and unique sides and homemade pies.  Prices are reasonable and right in line with the competition at $10.95 for a 3-meat plate.

The chicken was not outstanding, but otherwise this is hands-down the BEST barbecue I have tasted so far.  The meats had a full-bodied smoke flavor, not overbearing, well seasoned, tender, juicy, and generously portioned. The sauce was perfect too: thick, dark, sweet, tangy, smoky, and oh so good!  I felt like I had finally arrived at barbeque heaven.  Side dishes were equally good.  Of special note, their hot potato salad, more like a potato casserole, was to die for.  OMG! It was good.  We all wanted more.

So there you have it folks!  The BEST barbeque in Fort Bend County!  If I find one that tops this, I will let you know.  Enjoy!
