WCJC Senior Citizen program to hold 5K fundraiser :Stride & Stroll”

The Wharton County Junior College Senior Citizen Program will hold a 5K Stride &Stroll on Saturday, Nov. 9 to benefit its program, which provides hot meals and a variety of services to adults 60 years and older who reside in Wharton County. The event begins at the Riverfront Park, Central Pavilion, located at 222 West Elm in Wharton at 8 a.m.

Pre-registration is $25 for individuals and $100 per company through October 31. The company registration includes up to five participants. Late registration for individuals is available through November 9 for $30. Prizes will be awarded for various first place finishers as well as for best costume, cheering group and best decorated stroller or wagon. Pre-registration packets are available at the WCJC Senior Citizen Program office in the LaDieu Technology Center on the Wharton campus or by emailing carolo@wcjc.edu.

The WCJC Senior Citizen Program provides hot meals, exercise classes, education programs and recreational activities that improve the quality of life for the elderly. Centers are located on the Wharton campus and in El Campo and East Bernard.

In addition to these activities, the program supplies residents 60 years and older who are homebound with hot meals and local transportation services so they can maintain their independence by living at home. The WCJC Senior Citizen Program also works with the Houston-Galveston Area Council Agency on Aging to provide other services, such as homemaker and respite care services, and residential repairs.

For more information about the 5K Stride & Stroll, contact the WCJC Senior Citizen Program at 979.532.6430.
