The Spartans varsity football team is undefeated! The team handily beat the Houston Sunnyside Senators 57-7 on Friday. The previous week the team persevered through two overtime periods to rally and beat the Sweeny Bulldogs 50-49! The wins bring the Spartans to a perfect 8-0 record. Previously, the Spartan’s best record, set in 1989, was 9-2 overall and 7-0 in district play. The Spartans travel to La Marque this Friday, November 8th, to square off against the undefeated La Marque Cougars for the 24-3A title. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Etheredge Stadium.
The Mighty Spartan Band received a First Division Trophy at the U.I.L. Marching Contest on October 19th! The band also placed Best in Class, received Best Drum Line and Best Soloist awards, and earned a First Division Rating at the Lamar Marching Contest! You can watch the band perform during half-time at the Stafford – La Marque game. Go Spartans!
For the second consecutive year, the Boys Varsity Cross Country team won the district 24-3A Championship and the varsity girls’ varsity and junior varsity Cross Country teams were district runner-up! Both teams competed this last weekend at the Region 3 Championships at Atascocita High School in Humble and all Stafford runners finished with their best performances of the year! Top performer, sophomore, and two-time U.I.L. cross country State qualifier, Lynette Amaram, finished 5th out of 160 runners and will compete this Saturday, November 9th at the U.I.L. State Championships in Round Rock, TX. Go Spartans!
The Lady Spartans varsity volleyball team are second in the district after beating the West Columbia Lady Roughnecks in five hard fought sets last Tuesday! The ladies are 8-3 and begin their run to the state play-offs in the bi-district play-offs against the Yates Lions tomorrow, Tuesday, November 5th, at 6:00 pm in Barnett Stadium. Go Spartans!
The Freshmen football team is also undefeated! Included in their wins are KIPP North, College Station, Splendora and La Marque B team. Many of the athletes on the freshman team have played football together since 7th grade and have not lost a game the entire time! The team plays their final game against La Marque A team at home on November 7th. Game time is 5:00 p.m. Go Spartans!
The JV football team is 4-1-1. In the last month the JV beat Hempstead, Sweeny, West Columbia, Palacios, lost to Navasota and tied Episcopal.
On Oct. 24, the Stafford High School swim team successfully held its first meet at the Stafford Municipal pool! Members of the Stafford National Honor Society provided timers and runners. Go Spartans!
In recognition of the nationwide Red Ribbon Campaign, students made posters; marched in parades; wore red clothing, boots, crazy socks, and athletic jerseys; and signed commitments to be drug free. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Kids & Cops program organized a parade at the Intermediate School that entertained students in the Primary and Elementary Schools. Deputy McGruff the Crime Dog, and Reddy Cat the 911 feline, were parade favorites and members of the Stafford High School Band drum line led the parade. Following the parade, SMSD’s Chief Financial Officer Carla Merka challenged the students to “Be a Super Hero” and have the Power to say No to Drugs!’ Thank you Fort Bend Sherriff’s Department!
