GREAT things are happening at Stafford MSD!
Message From Dr. Hindt
The 2013-14 school year has gotten off to a stellar start! On August 26, 2013, we opened our doors to 3,498 students, an all-time high student enrollment for SMSD. Great things are happening in our district and students and families want to be a part of it! It’s an understatement when I say how proud I am to be the superintendent of schools for a GREAT student body, faculty and community.
As we are nearing the midway point in the first semester of school, I have some fantastic news to report to all of you regarding recent accomplishments our students and staff have received. First, I would like to report to all of you that on August 9, 2013, SMSD received notification that the Stafford Municipal School District and all district schools achieved the highest ranking possible as part of the new 2013 Texas Education Agency accountability system.
This is a testament to the hard work our students and staff have put in to instructionally transform our district into an elite teaching and learning environment. We still have work to do, as we will not become complacent, but I am very pleased with our progress to this point. Additionally, the district recently received notification from TEA that SMSD received a perfect score “Superior Achievement” on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). SMSD’s FIRST rating shows that our district is making the most of our taxpayers’ dollars and that SMSD schools are accountable, not only for student learning, but also for achieving results cost-effectively and efficiently.
Speaking of transformation, not only did we open our doors to a record enrollment but we also opened our doors to new facilities for the 2013-14 school year. Students at the Primary School were welcomed with twelve new classroom additions to accommodate our growing enrollment and growing Chinese and Vietnamese dual-language programs.
And, at the High School, we opened our doors to the newly renovated Margaret Havens Library and Media Center and to our newly constructed 92,000 square foot Stafford College and Career Center, or as our students refer to it—S Triple C. The entire High School campus received a facelift and on January 6, 2014, SMSD will hold a rededication and ribbon cutting ceremony to showcase our facility. I encourage all of you to come out on this date and tour our new facilities. I promise, you will be amazed! Additional information regarding our rededication and ribbon cutting ceremony will be detailed in the upcoming Spotlight publication.
How about some more good news? Our Girls Varsity Volleyball team is heading to the playoffs after finishing second in district. Our Boys Varsity Football team is undefeated and is currently ranked 6th in the Houston area among 3A schools. We are fighting to be the undisputed District 24-3A football champions!
Our Varsity Boys Cross Country team recently won district and our Varsity Girls Cross Country team secured second place in district. Both the Boys and Girls Cross Country teams competed at the Region 3 Championships this last weekend and all Stafford runners finished with their best performances of the year! Top performer, sophomore, and two-time U.I.L. cross country State qualifier, Lynette Amaram, finished 5th out of 160 runners and will compete this Saturday at the U.I.L. State Championships in Round Rock, TX.
Five Middle School choristers outperformed more than 500 Fort Bend area students for spots in the Texas Music Educators Association All-Region Honor Choir. Our Mighty Stafford High School marching band, all 200+, recently secured first place in their division at the Texas University Interscholastic League State Marching Competition. And, after a year hiatus, allow me to brag about our Stafford High School debate team. In just their first competition, the Stafford High school debate team secured 6th place out of 25 teams–not bad!
In closing, I request your assistance. Please go to www.abc13.com/highschool and vote for Stafford vs. La Marque as the ABC 13 High School Football Game of the Week. I also ask that you travel to La Marque this Friday to watch our undefeated Spartans play for the undisputed District 24-3A district title at 7:30 pm at La Marque. And please join us tonight at 6 pm as our Girls Volleyball team plays Houston Yates High School in the first round of the play-offs at Barnett Stadium.
