Oyster Creek Rotary Club Veterans Day Luncheon set for November 8
The Oyster Creek Rotary Club will hold its 14th annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon 11:30 AM, Friday, November 8, at the City Centre at Quail Valley, Missouri City, Texas.
The speaker will be Missouri City native John Boerstler who served as a US Marine Corps sergeant in Iraq, Kuwait, Syria, Jordan, Djibouti, and Kenya. In Iraq, he was wounded, suffering severe trauma to his right eye. John received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps in 2007, graduated from Texas A&M University, and is currently pursuing a master’s of public administration degree from the University of Houston.
In 2011 John was the recipient of a German Marshall Fellowship to represent the US in eight different European countries. After working for a US Congressman and for two Houston mayors, John is a strong advocate for veterans and is a manager for the Wounded Warrior Project and as the Board Chairman of the Lone Star Veterans Association.
Oyster Creek Rotary Club president, Cindy Fauvelle, describes the event as “a demonstration of our appreciation to veterans with introductions of each attending individual veteran in a relaxed and informal atmosphere led by our own Rotary Club member James Thurmond who will serve as MC and use his own US Army experience to facilitate an informative exchange with veterans.” The speaker, John Boerstler, will wrap up the luncheon with encouraging words of patriotism, service, and honor.”
There will also be the presentation of the US Flag to a distinguished veteran sponsored by Frances X. Gerosa Jr.
