The Hawks Eye View
By Chloe Baker
The students at Wertheimer Middle School have finally begun to settle in and learn how everything works here at Wertheimer. From my perspective, his school is one of the best middle schools around. There are many things that make our school fun and unique, but I was curious to know how my classmates felt about our school.
I had the chance to sit down with fellow sixth graders and friends, Noelle Hausmann, Jewelia Whitwell, Reid Martinez, and Jennifer Hooper. I wanted to hear firsthand, “What do you think makes Wertheimer unique?”
“I think [what makes Wertheimer unique is] how we all have different classes like band or theater arts,” Jewelia stated. “We all get one [elective] we prefer.”
Jennifer thought that safety was an important part of Wertheimer’s positive atmosphere. “I’d say the environment…[how the school is] strict on the no bullying stuff. I like that.” I believe that along with feeling safe, students at Wertheimer also feel comfortable. One reason for that is that the teachers and staff make everyone feel at home. Many kids feel like they can talk to any of the staff here about whatever might be bothering them.
Noelle was eager to share that she also thought that the teachers and staff made a significant impact. “The teachers definitely make Wertheimer unique by the way they teach…every teacher is different.”
Jewelia noted that she felt all of her teachers this year were, “nice and understanding and…always willing to help.”
Reid agreed with Noelle, going on to explain that he appreciates that all of his teachers are very supportive. “I [too] think it’s the teachers…but also all the fun dress up days that Mrs. Nurre plans for us. She makes everything fun for us.”
They all made great points, and I wholeheartedly agree with them! Here at Wertheimer, we Hawks do love to have fun–and we always do! One of the many fun things that Mrs. Nurre plans for Wertheimer students are different types of dress up days. Most recently, we had “Swag Day”.
For “Swag Day”, all the students and staff were encouraged to come school showing their very own swag! We Hawks did it right with our swagilicous clothing and styles! One student came wearing a superman hat–very swag—while another student wore light up sunglasses! Students seem to really look forward to dress up days because it gives them a unique way of expressing their own style. When asked, the students I spoke with had some great suggestions for future dress up days, such a holiday-themed dress or a rock ‘n’ roll dress-up day.
Another weekly event that students are enthusiastic about is what is called “Fun Friday”. This takes place every Friday during every P.E. period and includes dancing and playing a game called Chaos. The highlight of the period is dancing The Wobble. No matter what, on Fridays students always dance to that song! Classmate, Jennifer, reinforced that by saying, “I like the dances. Especially The Wobble.” Reid added, “I love watching everyone run around, go crazy, and have fun!”
So, now you have heard it directly from some Wertheimer Hawks on why WMS is a fun and unique place to be! Until next time…
