University Branch Library presents artist demonstration of oil painting

Fort Bend County Libraries, in conjunction with Sugar Land Area Artists, will present a special artist demonstration of “Painting an Oil Portrait Using Only Four Colors” at the University Branch Library on Saturday, November 16, beginning at 10:30 am, with a meeting followed by a demonstration of watercolor painting, in the Small Meeting Room of the library, located at 14010 University Blvd in Sugar Land, on the UH campus.

Award-winning visual artist C. Russell Anderson will demonstrate how to paint a portrait with oil paint using only four colors.

After completing his studies at the Texas Academy of Art, Anderson worked as a designer for an ad agency in New York. He put his career on hold to enlist in the U.S. Army, where he became a combat artist for the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. Upon completion of his service, Anderson continued his studies at Northwestern State University. His illustration and design career led him to positions with Brown & Root, Inc., Southwest Art Magazine, Gulf Publishing, and Heritage West Fine Art Publishers, where he served as Vice President of Marketing.

A resident of Sugar Land, Anderson currently works as an artist, art teacher, and art-show judge. His paintings have won numerous awards around the country.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call the branch library at 281-633-5100, or the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677.
