Lamar CISD dedicates fourth middle school

Shown at the dedication were: Back row, Lamar CISD Trustee Dar Hakimzadeh, Lamar CISD Trustee Anna Gonzales, Lamar CISD Superintendent Dr. Thomas Randle, George Foundation Chief Executive Officer Roger Adamson, former George Foundation CEO Roland Adamson, leaning on couch, Ryon Middle School Principal Heather Patterson, Assistant Principal Veronica Williams; and front row Mary Catherine  Shouse, Mary Ann Carrico and Earl Shouse.

Lamar CISD dedicated its fourth middle school on November 6, named in honor of a woman known for her compassion for the sick.

Polly Ryon Middle School is a sixth-grade only campus, located adjacent to George Ranch High School and Reading Junior High. Ryon was an astute business woman who built the family ranch and farm into one of the largest in the area. That operation would later become the George Ranch.

The George Foundation started Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond, which is now Oak Bend Medical Center. Ryon was known for her medical skills, caring for family members and neighbors.

Three of Ryon’s descendants – great-granddaughter Mary Ann Carrico, great-great-granddaughter Mary Catherine Shouse and great-great-grandson Earl Shouse — attended the dedication ceremony.

The school is built on what was once part of the George Ranch.
