The Fort Bend Foodie 11/13/13

Los Gallitos Mexican Cafe
3385 S. Hwy. 6
Sugar Land, TX 77478
Cuisine:  Tex-Mex

With so many Mexican food restaurants around and having heard nothing about this place, I was curious how it compared.  Located where the old Tortuga’s use to be. The place was not noisy and was pleasant for visiting.  I was delighted to see an entire page of the menu devoted to healthy choices for menu options, offering gluten free, low fat and/or low carb options.  In addition to the traditional tex-mex options, there were quite a few unusual selections as well.  All were reasonably priced.

Folks, I highly recommend the margaritas here!  They were large and very good!  For $13.99, The El Panchito was quite a tasty entrée including a fried eggplant-half stuffed with shrimp & scallops in a chile con queso sauce, served with rice, burracho beans, and guacamole.  It was all very tasty, well presented, and filling.   Other options along this line were stuffed avocados with various choices of stuffing.

This place was a pleasant surprise.  If you are looking for a quieter place to eat that you might not have to wait as long to be seated, is reasonable, love Mexican food (and who doesn’t?), have someone in your group on a special diet, or are in the mood for a great margarita, this is a good place to go.

Overall Rating: 4 stars.
