Veteran receives thanks and gift from stranger

Dear Editor,

I recently went to the veterans clinic in Richmond for blood work. Since i was fasting for my blood work and was hungry, I stopped at a Whataburger for breakfast on my way back.

After eating my breakfast I returned to the drink fountain for a water refill.  On my way out I hear someone call out sir, sir, I turned around and a young man with a plastic card in his hand was addressing me. I was wondering how I had dropped my credit card when I had not even used it.

The young man said to me, “Sir your next meal is on me. I want to thank you for serving our country and what you have been through”.  I was kind of stunned

because I don’t hear a thank you for serving too often. I shook his hand and thanked him.

I felt good that American patriotism is still strong. A happy Veterans day to all veterans.
