Stafford MSD Did You Know…

Stafford High Senior Norberto Hernandez will be one of 10 students to showcase their street art at the Houston Via Colori Street Painting Festival Saturday, November 23 and Sunday, November 24.

The Spartans Varsity Football Team will play the Silsbee Tigers in the second round of the bi-district play-offs this Friday, November 22, at 7:30 pm at Turner Stadium in Humble.  The Spartans beat Furr High School last Thursday 48-20 to advance.   Pre-sale tickets for students only can be purchased at the Stafford Athletic Field House for $4.  All other tickets cost $7 at the gate.  The District 21-3A Tigers have a 8-2 record and the District 24-3A Spartans have a 9-1 record.  The Spartans will be the home team at this week’s game.

Turner Stadium is located on the north side of Houston near Intercontinental Airport at 1601 S. Wilson Road, Humble TX  77338.  Directions:  Exit Will Clayton from Highway 59 and turn east. Continue on Will Clayton for approximately two miles. Turn left at Wilson Road. The stadium is located approximately 1/4 mile on the right, directly behind Humble High School.  Come out and support the Spartans!  Go Spartans!

Stafford High School Freshman Kennedy Sauls will compete at the U.I.L. State Competition in debate!  Kennedy outscored more than 25 competitors representing eleven 3A & 4A schools to advance.   What makes this even more remarkable is that this is Kennedy’s first year as a competitor and second tournament.  Debate sponsor Amanda Trost said that the entire debate team has spent considerable time practicing  together to make this happen.  Go Spartans!

Stafford High School senior Norberto Hernandez will be one of only 10 high school-age artists showcasing their work at the Houston Via Colori Street Painting Festival next Saturday and Sunday, November 23-24.  Hernandez, and more than 200 professional artists, will transform the pavement of downtown Houston into an unconventional art gallery for the Houston Via Colori Street Painting Festival.

Nov.23 and Sunday, the free two-day festival provides an opportunity for artists to create chalk murals directly on the pavement to benefit children with hearing impairments receiving services from the Center for Hearing and  Speech.
Hernandez was provided space after winning a showcase based on his “Space Odyssey” soft pastel drawing.

Stafford students give back to the community in numerous ways!  Elementary School students raised $2,577.84 to benefit the Leukemia Society’s Pennies for Patients Campaign.  High School students collected more than 650 cans of non-perishable foods in only one week to benefit local food pantries.  High School Student Council officers and Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) students are volunteering for the City of Stafford’s Children’s Festival on December 3rd.   Go Spartans!

Students in the Stafford High School Advanced Graphics class work with local non-profits to learn about the services they offer and design logos that communicate their message.  Last year, the J.B. Rhodes Foundation was one of the non-profits. Recently the foundation selected a logo designed by Scott Almaguer, Class of 2013, to represent the foundation.   The logo can be viewed on their website at http://jbrhodes.org/.
Go Spartans!

“Santa’s Village Comes to Stafford” on Tuesday, December 3rd, from 5:30 – 8:00 pm at the Stafford Centre!  The Christmas Children’s Festival is hosted by the City of Stafford and will include different rooms in Santa’s village and lots of free activities for children.  A Stafford Patrol Car will be stuffed with donated non-perishable food items to provide for our community.  Mark your calendar!
