Sugar Land MS students connect with artist through distance learning
Students at Sugar Land Middle School experienced art through distance learning as they met and interacted with Fort Worth artist, Sedrick Huckaby. Sponsored by Connect2Texas, the event gave art students the opportunity to see the professional artist in action without leaving their classroom.
While interacting with students, Huckaby shared his background and explained how he draws inspiration from his family and his African-American heritage when creating art. Students also learned to recognize the artist’s empathy for family, community and humankind that’s portrayed in his artwork.
Huckaby received his B.F.A. from Boston University, his M.F.A from Yale University, and has had more than 70 solo and group exhibitions across the country. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Phillip Morris Fellowship and the Guggenheim Fellowship. His work is also held in numerous collections, including the African American Museum, Dallas; The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
