FBISD students gather for a cause: The 6th Annual Tracie Hester Event

Fort Bend ISD students from Austin High School and Travis High School  joined forces on November 9 to host the 6th Annual Tracie Hester / Life Donor Scholarship Event. Tracie Hester was an Austin High School graduate and an Austin Angel who was killed in a car wreck in 2006.  Known around school for her kindness and giving spirit, Tracie continued to give back to those around her after her untimely passing through organ and tissue donation. Tracie Hester was a Life Gift donor and was able to help more than 100 people.

The Tracie Hester/Life Gift Scholarship Event was a 2-hour program that included: carnival type games (sponsored by AHS DECA Club), dance performances by the Travis Belles and Austin Angels, and speakers on behalf of Life Gift, encouraging people to become organ donors. Every year, the event is fun, thought-provoking, emotional, and inspiring. The Angels’ directors Lilian Mason and Ashlee Williamson note that, “Each year, the Tracie Hester/Life Donor Scholarship Event presents an opportunity to make a difference in hundreds of people’s lives by encouraging others to follow in Tracie’s footsteps. She inspires us to be forever compassionate and giving.”

The Tracie Hester Life Gift Scholarship event is a charitable event that serves to bring awareness to the local community about becoming blood and organ/tissue donors. It also educates people about the life and legacy of Tracie Hester. Mrs. Meredith Watassek, the sponsor of AHS DECA, was the master of ceremonies. Monetary donations from the event go towards the Tracie Hester Scholarship.  Last year, two scholarships for $1,250 each were awarded- one at each high school. 2013-2014 Scholarship application will be available in January at the counselors’ offices at Travis and Austin.
