Katy man arrested for sexual assault of student

Owner and coach at Xcel Athletics, Devincent Phillips, was arrested and charged with sexual assault stemming from a report made by a female student at his business.

“In late October, the girl made an outcry about the assaults that occurred when she was a student at the facility. The victim said she was assaulted by the coach on three occasions,” said Fort Bend Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel.

Phillips was arrested at his gym in the 500 block of South Mason road near Katy Thursday afternoon by Fort Bend detectives. Haenel said Phillips was taken to the Harris County Jail and charged with Sexual Assault of a Child; his bond was set at $20,000.

Haenel explained that the assaults took place in Harris County but the investigation was worked by Fort Bend County because the victim resides in Fort Bend.

Detectives believe there may be more victims, said Haenel. Anyone with information on this or any other assaults involving Phillips is asked to contact Fort Bend Crime Stoppers at 281-342-TIPS.
