The Fort Bend County Narcotics Task Force sniffs out a ton of marijuana headed north on US 59, with the assistance of “Deputy Mike” on the afternoon of Nov. 19, 2013.

Narcotics task force members conducted a traffic stop on US 59 at University Boulevard in Sugar Land on the northbound side of the freeway. Sheriff’s spokesman Bob Haenel said, “During the roadside investigation, Detective M. Hricko and K-9 partner, “Deputy Mike,” located 149 bundles of marijuana with a total weight of 2,357 pounds.” Haenel went on to explain that the bundles of marijuana were discovered in the bed of the truck; secreted by an affixed bed cover on the back of the Ford pick-up.

Haenel identified the driver as Jose Angel Ortuno-Gonzalez, 29, of Houston. He was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana; less than 2,000 pounds.

Ortuno-Gonzalez is being held on $250,000 bond. He remained in custody at press time.
